ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS, INC. How Much Environmental Control Do You Need? Environmental control is just that, control of ALL the factors which constitute an inside environment which includes temperature, humidity, total pressure, velocity, sound, as well as particulate, microbial and gaseous contamination. Too often in the minds of laymen environmental control has come to mean control of temperature only. It is up to the engineering profession to probe the needs of users to determine their real needs. Is the process sensitive to humidity, either partial pressure of water vapor or maybe relative humidity, and are contaminants generated during processing? Some history often gives us clues as to what is important. When did the process yield good or bad results? We believe strongly that a little discussion of this kind up front can eliminate unhappy users in the end. We as engineers must ask the right questions, drawn from our experience, to provide enough but not too much environmental control. by: Bob Carpenter 7-99 |
