Casino HVAC projects always present a challenge, as the comfort of the patron in the casino is paramount. Energy efficiency is also critical as the casinos often run 24 hours a day. I.C.E. presented a viable solution to the issue and provided 4-GIDM 125 HRU DX30SH units for the Sudbury Downs Casino.

The units feature heat recovery wheels, as this method offers latent energy recovery as well as sensible to provide optimal environmental comfort. The synthetic core, witha 4 Angstrom sieve to prevent cross-contamination, ensures long life of the heat wheel as the desiccant is embedded in the media. High efficiency cartridge filters were used to filter the fresh air and return air before entering the heat wheel.

For supplementary heat, an industrial grade 4-pass indirect fired heat exchanger was sized for 1,250 MBH. The units were equipped with packaged direct expansion cooling to provide the cooling for the casino.

A steam distributor with packaged gas fired humidifier was mounted within the unit to ensure the supply air to the building was a optimum comfort levels. The construction of the equipment is suited for even the most demanding industrial application. The entire unit was constructed of 16 gauge satin coat steel with 2 inch insulation and 22 gauge solid liner. The floor was constructed entirely of 12 gauge continuously welded checker plate. All wiring in the unit was done to JIC standards including NEMA 4 rated electrical panels for all control components and junction boxes. The roof on the units was sloped away from the control side of the unit to ensure optimum serviceability even in a rainstorm.

The general ventilation for the smaller areas of the casino was provided by I.C.E. MPB units which feature atmospheric stainless steel indirect fired heat exchangers, backward inclined fans and mix boxes with relief. These units were provided with direct expansion cooling and one of the four had a package electric humidifier.

These units are capable of supplying supreme comfort while providing an efficient and economical climate solution in a demanding casino environment.
